who

We Are: Filmmakers, Photographers, Educators, Writers and Thoughtful Citizens

The Mission of Earth Documentary Resistance is to document and then share authentic voices, express honest feelings and provoke thoughtful responses throughout local underserved and under-represented communities via visual images, both still and moving, as well as the written word. Through this documentation a record will be created to better understand and to explore the impact of humans on the environment of our planet. Earth Documentary Resistance is a 501(c)(3) cultural arts organization, founded and based in the State of New York.

Earth Documentary Resistance was created by me, Linda Wasson, B.S., M.F.A., to lead a diverse group of individuals who share a common love of visual arts, science and social justice.

We are conscious of the vast amount of change that humanity both experiences and participates in. We believe future generations will appreciate having a more diverse record of who 21st century societies were, what we believed in, where we lived, and most of all, how we impacted the world around us.

What

We Record the World Around Us

We record visual images. We use still cameras, digital, film, or both. Some of us also write about such changes, whether it be the extreme of climate change as glaciers melt and sea levels rise, or how conflict impacts borders and the people who live there. We record lives impacted by inequality, repression and environmental degradation. We strive to find the beauty and hope of the human spirit, the infinite power of nature, and the how and where these all come together.

Above all else and as outlined in our mission statement, we strive to share authentic voices, express honest feelings and provoke thoughtful responses.

Why

When I was a young girl, my uncle came to visit and we all went to Galveston beach for a picnic. There were sand dollars everywhere and I delighted in picking up and examining their delicately designed shells. Sandpipers, meadow larks, killdeer, and other birds were plentiful and thrived in our neighborhood.

Unfortunately, the reason they were there was because we humans had moved into their habitat and built homes where they once had nests. But then our fossil fuel energy sources along with our sewage polluted their waters and the continuing influx of homes crushed or felled those nests. Most have since become listed as either endangered or threatened. The much-beloved East Texas Piney Woods, along with other areas, shrunk to a mere fraction of acreage when more developments, roads and industries were built. Highways that increasingly divided not just animal habitats, but human ones as well, separated the haves from the have-nots, creating class and cultural divisions among communities.

Barriers that had first separated the animals, now also separated the humans.

This time in our history is believed by many to be a turning point for humanity. We have difficult choices to make and a necessity to change many of our long-held habits and customs if we want to survive as a species. Whatever decisions are made, whichever direction is taken and whatever the consequences may be, I believe it is of the utmost importance to record as much as possible about who we are, where we live and what is going on with the climate and world around us if we want to survive as a species. I believe we owe it to our descendants for the future we want to have as well as the future we will have, whatever it may be.

Earth Documentary Resistance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cultural arts organization was conceived and designed to serve the public with documentary works. Only through actual documentary processes, both visual and written, can an accurate record of what existed be depended on.

Earth Documentary Resistance is therefore a collaborative effort to record and document the world around us as long as we are still here.

This is our story.

COLLABORATION

Working together, cooperating, collaborating is how society and humanity survived and thrived since the beginning. Despite numerous setbacks, oppression, wars, and even genocide, people came together from all kinds of circumstances to make a better world but we're not quite there yet.

Documentary work doesn't happen on its own. It takes all kinds of talent, ingenuity and collaboration to create projects that actually have impact.

If you want to be a part of this, tell us. We'd love to discuss it!

If you want to join something worthwhile which will leave behind a record for others reflective of what you would like people to know, join us. We're all in this together!

If you have ideas, suggestions, even your own projects which you believe could be shared with others, we're happy to discuss it. We will listen!

Earth Documentary Resistance is actively seeking collaborations in photography, film, and writers (everywhere!) who believe as we do: That humanity is changing our planet. Work with us to record what is here now, what is changing and what is replacing it.
